Previously crowned were the 1/10th off-road champions and the 1/10th asphalt on-road champions. All of the region two championships for 2013 have been determined from a points race series system involving several regional racing facilities to square up the competition. This year?s summer showdown started in April in the southern tier of the region at RC Pro Raceway in Hayes, VA known for it?s high traction racing surface. Round two in May moved back to the north to Oakland Mills, PA at the LCRC Raceway facility, host of the 2013 1/8th ROAR Electric National Championships, to give the racers a preview of the track hosting the National event coming up in August. Running into the month of June, the race was back to the south for a second attempt at the third round race due to Mother Nature deciding power boat racing was more likely to occur at The Tiltyard in Dayton, VA. The fourth event in July continued back north on Interstate 81 to Winchester , VA at East Coast Hobbies to play in the clay created by track owner, Chad Greathouse. The month of August was left out of the schedule while racers attended the national event being held in the region. The 1/8th off-road racers danced in the dirt this past weekend, September 7th, in the final leg of the five race series in the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country at the XRC Raceway located in Quarryvile, PA. Statistics for the summer series included 285 entries throughout seven classes offered. 1/10th two wheel and four wheel drive short course trucks were also run as part of the series. The 1/8th championships included the four wheel drive short course trucks which are more acclimated to larger outdoor racing surfaces. The power house class for this year was the 1/8th electric buggies with over 90 unique entries more likely affiliated with the ROAR National championship being held in the region. The nitro buggy class, coming in a close second, had over 73 entries. Awards were provided to the three finishers in the A-main features for each event. In addition, the top five racers with the best four out of five events were awarded plaques for the series. The electric buggy class awarded the top ten racers due to the higher turnouts and those still eligible for participating in at least four of the five events. In addition random prizes were given to the participants from the series sponsors who were JConcepts, Viper RC, Tekin, Novak , Byrons Race Fuels, Buku Racing, Hobbico, Mugen Seiki, Boca Bearings and Competition Heat. Competition in the five classes being contested for the region 2 titles was fierce down to the last race of the series. The 1/8th electric buggy class was up from grabs by the two Team Associated drivers of Gunnar Rieck and Alex Miller. Miller hoping to capitalize on a four point deficit in the last event came up short with a mechanical failure in the double A-main format. Rieck coming out of Waretown, NJ continued to show his dominance in Region 2 for Team Associated by the taking the win and the championship title for the 1/8th electric buggy. The 1/8th electric truck class was also in a battle coming into the final race. Bobby Stroud driving a Mugen came into the final race with the points lead over Jammin J-Digga Blair from Altoona, PA driving a Hot Bodies truck. Stroud would sit in the top qualifying position after three heat s of racing and continued to dominate in the final double A-main features taking the championship victory. The four wheel drive short course division title was fairly locked up for the title by the Team Losi driver of Brian Miskolczi. The battle in the series was for the runner up spot between Jason Mackanick of Shippensburg, PA running the MIP Losi and Curtis Woodward from Windsor, VA running the Losi 2.0. The top five trucks in the A-main feature would exchange the lead with Miskolczi eventually coming out on top and Paul Rush in the Tekno coming through for second place. The final podium spot was decided going into the last corner where Woodyard and Mackanick were running nose to tail and each driver protecting their race lines. Mackanick would squeak it out with respectful driving from Woodward to take home the final podium spot and securing the 2nd place overall in the regional championship series points. Moving onto the nitro buggy division was a similar shoot-out as last year between the Team Losi driver of Brian Miskolczi with a two point lead over Team Associated?s Gunnar Rieck in the overall points for the championship. Rieck would narrow that lead down to one point going into the feature event by putting his car on the top qualifying position and Miskolczi qualifying eighth. Positions two through seven were pretty much filled with some of the local hot drivers from Schreffler, Grayek, Phillips and Kathuria. Rieck seemed to have it locked up with a fifteen second lead over the entire field after the first set of fuel stops. Bad luck would eventually come his way and mechanical failure would set Rieck behind the pit lane wall. In the meantime, the Mugen driver of Jason Schreffler would take over the lead with Chad Phillips narrowing the gap each lap in the final moments of the race. Joe Wutke on the fuel gun at the pit lane for Jason Schreffler would keep him out front of Phillips trying to win based on a one stop fuel strategy over the two stops by Schreffler. Phillips coming in at about the 10:15 mark would gamble the win by trying to overcome Schreffler with one less fuel stop. Pushing the car harder in the second half of the race, Phillips ran out of fuel on the last lap and sealed the victory for Schreffler. The final championship on the line at the event came down to the final race. The 1/8th Nitro truck division leader, eleven year old,Team Losi?s Austin Woodyard, would have a four point lead over his Losi teammate of Brian Miskolczi coming into the final race day. Miskolczi would set his truck on the top qualifying position narrowing the gap down to 3 points between him and Woodyard, meaning a win for Miskolczi could tie the points. At the sound of the tone, the truck of Miskolczi did not come up to speed and Woodyard would take over the lead on the first lap and never look back for the rest of main. Taking three or four laps for Miskolczi?s engine to work it out dropped the top qualifier down to the 9th place position. In the mean time, Duane Karlovsky, in the Mugen, would take over the 2nd place position and maintain it throughout the feature event. Miskolczi would recover from the rough start to bring home third for the day. The 1/8th nitro truck championship title for ROAR Region 2 would go to Austin Woodyard from Windsor, VA and team mate Brian Miskolczi would bring home the runner up position for the series.[gallery]
