Introducing Chuck Leinbach, region 4 director

February 1, 2021

I’m Chuck Leinbach and will be your new ROAR Region 4 Director. When I renewed my ROAR membership after moving to Florida, I ask who the region Director was. Not long after this I was asked if I would be interested in running for the position and said sure. It was a tough election, but I won. (I did not tell my wife I was the only candidate…) I have been involved with ROAR since the mid-80s and view this as a chance to give back to a sport I love and enjoy. I want to say thank you to Frank Vega, the previous Director. These are volunteer positions, and his contribution is appreciated.

I believe ROAR is an important organization to the RC racer. Some of you are aware of the insurance benefits as track operators. Another major benefit is the rules structure ensuring standardized classes across the country that benefits us all. I myself have taken advantage of this. I have never been to a track that did not use ROAR rules whether they were a ROAR track or not (most were not). Most major series not sanctioned by ROAR use the ROAR rule book as a basis.

Stock car racers have NASCAR, road racers have SCCA, Indy car and IMSA, and the dirt oval racers have several sanctioning bodies. As RC racers, we have ROAR which represents us at a national level and adds credibility to our sport. ROAR is our organization.

I have been in the sport since the mid-80s. My first car was an RC10 which I still have. I have raced off road, on road electric and 1/8th on road nitro. I enjoy all the classes. When we moved here, I told my wife it would not be a question of would I race, but what classes would I concentrate on, what would I have time for and what could I afford.

For Region 4 I would like to see expanded representation for off road electric and nitro meaning more tracks willing to hold ROAR sanctioned races. Also need representation in the Florida pan handle and I need to figure out what we are doing in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. We have good on-road coverage.

I will not be able to do everything on my own, there are too many classes to be fully informed on the racing landscape in each of them. I will get to as many tracks and races as I can but will be looking for Assistant Region Directors for various classes.   More to come on that later.

That’s it for now. I hope to meet and talk with you soon and see you at the races.

Chuck
