A "Little Bird" told me that some serious work was going on at the Flowood R/C Racing Center. Located in a rather unique community just east of Jackson, Mississippi, the state capitol, I had to stop by and see for myself.
The "little bird" was right. The only thing that was like it was the last time that I was there was that the building had not moved. The old racing surface, that I had found no fault with, had been removed and replaced with a very fine hard packed new surface. The track layout has been completely changed. There are "high speed areas" as well as "slow down and drive" areas. The way the jumps and table top are designed, I think that any legal class could be raced here now, perhaps even an "outlaw" class or or two.
Now the question, why all of the work as well as expense? Simple, I was told, Flowood R/C Racing center is preparing for their "Bring the Heat" race. This event will be held July 15, 16 & 17, 2011, and Flowood R/C Racing Center wanted racers to be able to have a good time and to be able to talk about an outstanding facility when they returned home. I was told that some famous drivers in the sport of R/C racing have agreed to attend this event.
The picture below is a "fish eye" view of the new track. This awesome shot was produced by Denis Rester of Chapel Road Images. For more pictures or information go to http://flowoodrc.com
