Off-Road Body Announcement!

January 15, 2025

Announcement regarding ROAR’s approval procedures for Off-Road bodies in 2025 and 2026 ROAR rule #9.1.2 specifies that only ROAR-approved bodies may be used in sanctioned events such as our Regional and National Championship races. However, at present, there are no Off-Road bodies shown on the ROAR-approved list. ROAR makes no excuses for how this situation came to be, but we are firmly committed to fixing it as soon as possible. Moreover, we wish to do so without imposing undue burdens on the entire racing community. Therefore, ROAR will implement the following corrective measures:

1) For 2025, ROAR will automatically approve all Off-Road bodies offered by a given manufacturer provided that the body was widely available for sale to the public prior to 2025 and the manufacturer renews their ROAR Industry Affiliate membership for 2025. Manufacturers meeting this requirement will be added to the ROAR-approved body list immediately upon receipt of their renewal application and annual fee. The temporary and provisional global approvals granted to each Off-Road body manufacturer will automatically expire at the end of 2025.

2) All new Off-Road bodies released for sale in 2025 must be submitted to ROAR for individual inspection and approval before being allowed to compete in a ROAR-sanctioned event in 2025 and thereafter. All new Off-Road bodies released for sale in 2025 and thereafter must comply with #9.1.3 of the ROAR Rule Book in order to pass inspection and be added to the Approval List.

3) Rule #9.1.3.4 requires that the manufacturer’s part number must be molded into the body. Technical inspectors will NOT enforce this rule at ROAR-sanctioned events in 2025 but will do so for all such events in 2026 and thereafter. Bodies lacking the molded-in model number will NOT be allowed to compete in a ROAR sanctioned race after December 31, 2025. This gives manufacturers, retailers, and drivers one full year to bring their Off-Road bodies into compliance.

4) Beginning in 2026, ROAR will require all Off-Road bodies used in sanctioned events to be on the approved list regardless of when they were first offered for sale. All Off-Road bodies must conform to rule #9.1.3.3 and rule #8.2.1. Manufacturers seeking such approval must submit representative samples of each unique body model number for inspection in accordance with #9.1.3 of the ROAR Rule Book. If a manufacturer offers several versions of the same body that vary slightly in order to fit different vehicle chassis, samples of each unique model number must still be submitted for inspection, but the manufacturer will only be required to pay one inspection fee for that entire family of bodies provided that the only functional difference between models is how the mold is customized to fit specific Off-Road chassis.

5) Individual approvals for any given Off-Road body will be valid for a period of four years provided that the manufacturer remains a ROAR Industry Affiliate in good-standing for that entire period. If a manufacturer fails to renew their annual membership, all previously approved bodies will be automatically removed from the Approved List when their membership expires. If a manufacturer desires that a given Off-Road body should remain on the Approved List after the initial four-year period expires, they must submit a current production sample for each unique model number and pay the required fee for a new inspection by ROAR officials.

6) In 2025, if a manufacturer is not shown on the ROAR Approved List, Off-Road bodies made by that manufacturer may not be used in a ROAR sanctioned race. In 2026 and thereafter, if a specific Off-Road body model is not shown on the ROAR Approved List, that body may not be used in a ROAR sanctioned race.

Please note, ROAR is not imposing any new rules here; we are simply enforcing rules that have been in place for many years. We sincerely regret our failure to do so more consistently in the past. In addition, we wish to express our appreciation to the numerous ROAR members who called our attention to this problem and urged us to fix it ASAP.

The Off-Road Body List will be posted in the coming days.
