October 2008 Report Region 9 Tracks Bid For 2009 Nats November, 2008 SWCS Race #5 Results The SWCS Race 5 was moved from September 27 to the 28th. Original plans were for this race to be a night race on the 27th at Gulf Coast Raceway in Porter Texas. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ike and the resulting power outages laid waste to the original plans and the event was rescheduled for the afternoon on the 28th. Let?s hope some racing can be scheduled at night at Gulf Coast next year. As someone who has had a chance to drive this track under the lights, let me say it is big fun and much cooler during the summer months. The standings are very tight in SWCS competition this year, you can throw a hanky over the top five in all classes. This race meant a lot in the year end points chase and it now looks like the final standings will come down to Race 6 at RCRCNT Rendon next month. Here are the results of Race 5: 200mm .12 Touring 1. Jane Ingersoll October 10, 2008 I would like to take the time to commend a couple of Region 9 tracks for submitting bids for ROAR 2009 National events. Gulf Coast Raceway in Houston submitted multiple bids for various on and off road Nationals and Action RC Speedway in Oklahoma City bid for the Off Road Fuel Nats. Both of these tracks are excellent and they have the manpower and know how to run a National caliber event. Unfortunately, none of the Region 9 bids were accepted for 2009.. All you can do at this point is line up and submit for 2010 and see what happens. Even though Nationals tend to rotate across the country (East, Central , West, repeat). I encourage all tracks who capable of hosting a National to submit a bid every year.. Many times, bid submissions will be weak for a region of the the country in nationals rotation in which case bids from the next country region in rotation are considered. I have on more than one occasion, seen Nationals awarded to tracks that were out of rotation simply because no other acceptable bids where submitted from other parts of the country . Action RC, OKC, Oklahoma

Had a chance to stop by Action RC while in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago. I primarily race On Road but have dabbled in Off Road on occasion. Here in central Texas we are stuck with blackland dirt which is great for agriculture but needs some help ( ie mix with sand or clay) to make a suitable off road racing surface. First thing you notice at Action is they have a whole one acre lot, for that matter a whole state, full of great red sandy clay dirt that we here in Texas have to haul in to make a good race surface. Score one for Oklahoma. Jerrold Hawthorn, owner, introduced himself, told me about the facility and allowed me to walk around and check things out. There is a nice hobby shop on site, fencing around the track, great drivers stand and scoring tower, and a good watering system to keep the track moist during heats. The day I was there, the track layout feature one of the neatest stair step jumps I have ever seen at a off road track You guys in OK are fortunate to have a facility like this and any TX guys that haven't checked this track out need to.
